Around the Frayed Edges May 1-29 2010
| Exhibition is on display from March 18 through May 29. This exhibition delves into the outer edges of fibre arts. Fibre arts is a style of fine arts made with textiles and is more concerned with creativity and skill in the end product than functionality. In Around the Frayed Edges a narration will be spun through work that pushes the confines as to what an artist can do with fibre today. Twenty-seven fibre artists from across North America have created works for this exhibition. From sculptural to painterly to installations this leading edge exhibition addresses all of the visual arts elements – all in fibre. Curated by Laurie Carmount

Artistic Narrative Through Clay course- Haliburton School of The Arts May 10-14 2010
| The intention of this course is to provide an opportunity to explore creativity and express ideas through the manipulation of clay. Basic skills and concepts will be introduced but playfulness, experimentation and narrative will be stressed as opposed to skills and specific techniques. The clay will be utilized as an artist’s tool rather than a means of developing a particular element of craftsmanship. Contemporary relevance, parallel references and personal interests will be researched, discussed and presented as you investigate your place within the context of current practice. Initial projects will be bisque and glaze fired. Subsequent pieces will not be fired during the course. Additional clay will be available for purchase at the school at a cost of $12 unfired. Clay being fired twice costs $20 per bag, which includes glazes.

Artistic Narrative Through Assemblage course- Haliburton School of The Arts May 17-21 2010
| The intention of this course is to provide an opportunity to explore creativity and express ideas through the use of a variety of found and low-tech materials. Basic skills and concepts will be introduced but playfulness, experimentation and narrative will be stressed as opposed to skills and specific techniques. The materials will be utilized as an artist’s tool rather than a means of developing a particular element of craftsmanship. Contemporary relevance, parallel references and personal interests will be researched, discussed and presented as you investigate your place within the context of current practice.
Contact us for additional information.
